Our prayer as believers should be that our consciences be sensitive to the revealed word of God in Scripture and the moving of the Holy Spirit in guiding us towards the wisdom of God Now, what I will say though, is that if the act of voting is an enacted political philosophy, ethics, and theology, then it places a charge on us to both vote and then act.

Voting alone does not make you morally virtuous or superior, especially when we know that these persons, parties, and platforms that we vote for are far from perfect Now, what voting does do though, is it fulfills your duty as a member in the American “city of man” to use Augustine’s phrase, to guide and direct our representative government in its course. Beyond voting, however, I believe our membership in the city of God further calls us to speak right, and act with a prophetic voice within our parties, among our ideological allies, and in our civil society But that’s a talk for another time.
